Item Description

A wonderful small cabinet display specimen from this now famous discovery in China. It should be noted that the Pingtouling Mine is completely mined out and will never produce these specimens again. I remember when these Mimetites hit the market and really shook things up over a decade ago. This piece plays host to superb quality, notably sharp, incredibly lustrous, hexagonal prismatic crystals of Mimetites sitting on oxidized matrix. I love the incredibly lively yellow-orange hue of the crystals, which is truly amplified by the small areas of gemminess on the terminations. The largest Mimetite measures 7 mm. It might not show as well in the photos, but it's very attractive in person. Even though I wouldn't say this is a rare specimen, it's still quite difficult to obtain good crystallized examples of Mimetite from any locality (contemporary or otherwise), and one typically must seek them out in established older collections. Priced at $750 in the inventory.
