Item Description

Don't be fooled, this is not the classic San Pedro Corralitos material, but rather a seldom seen small cabinet sized specimen from the Bilbao Mine. A multitude good sized spheres (the largest one measures 9 mm across) have a gorgeous orange color and a distinct velvety luster which are wedged between to layers of matrix. I read that these only came out once in the 1950s, and personally I've only seen a handful of them on the market. There are some small colorless, gemmy blades of what I believe to be Barites that can be seen among the Mimetites. A great piece for anybody who collects secondary ore minerals or minerals of Mexico. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#1156). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
