Item Description

A most impressive and unusual specimen from Tsumeb. Sparkling yellow semi-botyroidal aggregates and crystals of Mimetite have formed a partial replacement (not a complete pseudomorph) after a preexsiting crystal of smoky Cerussite. The Cerussite can actually be seen poking out of the base of the specimen. Cerussite even shows an interesting fluorescence under UV light. I haven't seen many of these of these over the years, but they certainly are attractive and HIGHLY sought after by collectors. It's obviously not very common from this prolific locality, and any Tsumeb completionist should JUMP on the change to add a piece like this to their Tsumeb suite. A very hard to find piece of this uncommon replacement from this beloved locality. The label accompanying the piece states that it came from the famous 1958 find! Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#1070). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Velt" November-December 2017). Valued at $1800.
