Item Description

Classic, rounded, lustrous, translucent, rich orange mimetite variety campylite crystals on quartz from this famous old Caldbeck Fells mine. The crystals reach 4 mm and are aesthetically clustered and surrounded by contrasting iron or manganese oxides. The vuggy massive quartz matrix has a nice surprise on back with sharp glassy quartz points. The Drygill Mine produced the world's finest examples of this desirable mimetite varietal and this is an excellent, highly representative combination example. Ex Kay Robertson Collection with no collection number. Her label was misplaced in the move. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record).
