Molybdenite is not often seen in fine quality matrix display specimens. This particular piece comes from the Babu District in Guangxi, China, and is one of the best examples we've had to offer in terms of matrix pieces. It hosts a bright silvery metallic foliated crystal group of Molybdenite measuring 2.1 cm aesthetically perched on Quartz matrix. I love the fact that the Molybdenite group is beautifully isolated on the matrix, and it's in very good condition, it's not all "chewed up" or buried like others we've seen from Babu. For a fairly well known species, it's no surprise that China is producing specimens of this beautiful sulfide. From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#28 C), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel.
