Item Description

RARE and superb molybdenite with sharp quartz crystals from the famous Kingsgate mines. Two frosted, translcuent, sharply terminated quartz crystals, to 3.8 cm, are dramatically attached to sculpturally intergrown clusters of highly lustrous, metallic molybdenite plates with typical greasy feel. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 558 and acquired from Sol Shale in the 1950s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). This is an extremely rare, pristine and important old-time combination from the Kingsgate mines. The heyday of the area was from 1905 to 1920. A MUST for the species or locality collector!
