Item Description
Metallic, mirror bright, crystals of silvery gray Molybdenite are emplaced on, and embedded in, a schistose matrix from this lesser known locality in the Czech Republic. There are at least a dozen well-formed to moderately well-formed, hexagonal Molybdenite crystals displayed on the top of this piece. The Molybdenite plates are from 1 to 2 cm across and are relatively thin (1 to 3 mm) and somewhat soft and flexible as is typical for the species. Molybdenite is a significant component for many different steels, though fine specimens like this are far more valuable than the value of the ore. Rarely are Molybdenite specimens available from this locality and this should be a rather fine location example for the species.
