Item Description

India and Moonstone have a long history. It is said to be the sacred stone of India. Ancient stories tell of how the gem was said to have been embedded in the forehead of the moon god Ganesh at the beginning of creation. This stone radiated moonbeams to earth, which created the gems we know today according to the Hindu mythology. With that said, India still remains one of the great sources for Moonstone in the world, and this particular stone is a wonderful example. The stone has a gentle silvery-grey hue with a slight amount of "adularescence", but what separates it from other Moonstone cabochons is the fact that it shows a beautiful 6-ray star when it is illuminated with a strong singular light source. We've done our best to illustrate it in the photo, but it's best seen in person. A very attractive gem of this historic and beloved material.
