Item Description

Mooreite is a very rare sulfate that is only found in two world localities, and was named after Gideon E. Moore, who was one of the first individuals to investigat the minerals of Sterling Hill and Franklin. This piece is a micro specimen of Mooreite, but it is one of the only single crystals of the species that I've seen. The crystal is gently mounted for excellent display and observation. I did my best to photograph the crystal under the microscope, but this is truly a micro specimen, and the crystal is only 5 mm at its longest dimension. The piece originally came from the collection of Pat Gross to Rich Kosnar in 1991. I have photographed Pat's hand-written label on the lid of the black plastic micromount box, which states that the piece was acquired from Al Smith in January of 1967.
