Item Description

Mooreite is a very rare hydrated Mg-Zn-Mn sulfate that is only found in two world localities, and was named after Gideon E. Moore, who was one of the first individuals to investigate the minerals of Sterling Hill and Franklin. Sterling Hill is the Type Locality. Waxy, tan crusts of mooreite richly covers the front and is noted on all sides of the massive ore matrix, which includes brownish-red zincite and tiny franklinite crystals. Collected in the North ore body in 1964. John MacDonald Collection and ex Herb Obodda dealer stock. Hefty ore at 879 grams or nearly 2 pounds.
