Item Description

Morion is the very dark brown to black nearly opaque to opaque variety of smoky quartz. It is extremely rare from this French area, which is known for gypsum and calcite. Quartz is listed in the MINDAT locality, but there are no photos in the Photo Gallery. This rich and sculptural large rounded and mounded plate is covered with sharp, highly lustrous crystals to about 1.3. The crystals appear to be black, but strong back lighting reveals them to be translucent very dark brown. Essentially pristine, with only a few gently bruised crystals in the interior. An exceptional and rare large 360-degree smoky quartz from this obscure locale and the Paul Zerfass Collection # 1427.
