Item Description

Mottramite is a species that is not often found in fine quality presentable display specimens. This piece is from the late 2011 find at the historic Ojuela Mine. These beautiful specimens were a major hit at the 2012 Tucson Show. This large miniature / small cabinet piece is sculptural, classic and showy specimen of the famous and distinctive Mottramites featuring aesthetic botryoidal groups of velvety, bubbly greenish-brown Mottramite "balls" forming almost stalactitic growths to create this highly aesthetic specimen. The largest individual "ball" measures about 7 mm across. Superb quality and excellent form. The front/display side is in wonderful condition, but please note that there are some contacts on the back piece, so it's not pristine. It's still eye-catching for a species that is rarely found in such displayable pieces like this. A must have for any collector of secondary ore minerals or specimens from the Ojuela Mine. Valued in the inventory at $1,800. Ex Dr. Barratt Phillips Collection.
