Item Description

An excellent, very showy and uncommon combination specimen from the Sunshine no. 3 adit at the famous Blanchard Mine. Murdochite is a rare lead, copper oxyhalide and scintillating tiny cubes are festooned on crusts of the uncommon lead oxide plattnerite, which partially cover the oxide-tinted quartz crystals. The "arm" to the right hosts a glassy, colorless fluorite cube with a nifty, sharp, 1.4 cm, sparkly anglesite-coated galena cube on the end. The sculptural form and segregation of the mineral species is very noteworthy and dramatic on this fine specimen. Murdochite was not identified until 1953 from the famous Mammoth-St. Anthony Mine at Tiger. Ex Chris Cowan Collection.
