Item Description

An exceptionaly specimen of stout thick crystals of native Copper from the famous Morenci mining area, which began production in 1942. Virtually solid Copper with an undulating surface that represents large, rounded crystallization, the color is rich and the luster varies along the piece. It even comes with an old, hand-written note (presumably from the miner that found it) that this was the thickest piece of native Copper found up to that point (by him, one presumes). Interesting piece of Morenci history, native copper actually is quite rare here. and this is 150 grams of solid crystal copper! At 1.1 cm thick, I do believe that. This was recently deaccessed from the extensive collection of Bob Reynolds, who cherished both minerals and fossils as he collected. Bob is a prolific author and has had several curating positions in museums.
