Item Description

Bright, silvery native mercury is richly scattered on the 3.2 cm vug lined with wine-red cinnabar on this RARE and rich combination dramatically accented with contrasting quartz veins on the blocky matrix. Mineral specimens from this extinct Hg-Cu-Cr-Mn mine, intermittently active from before 1875 to about 1972 (MINDAT) are EXTREMELY RARE. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 598 and acquired from The Bradleys in the 1950s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017). Undoubtedly older material. A MUST for the species or California collector.
