Item Description

A hefty specimen of classic Cobalt silver with minor attached matrix, showing the hackly and bright look that makes them very collectible and identifiable. This piece could have come out anywhere in the heyday of these mines, but probably the early to mid 1900s is most likely. This massive piece is complete around, and is 511 grams = 16.5 troy ounces! It is from the John Durkos Collection which was sold off about 1999 or so. It was the largest and most comprehensive private collection of Cobalt silvers put together to my knowledge. Durkos lived in the silver district and made it known he would buy fine specimens for cash, which he did for over 40 years from the 1950s til his death. A major old Canadian piece, here! valued $2500.
