Item Description

This excellent specimen is from a small new find at the renowned Huanzala Mine of Peru, from mid-January of 2010. It produced a number of pink octahedral fluorites associated with sharp, melted-look galena crystals. This is the first major find of pink fluorites at Huanzala, since the world-famous 1980 find. However, few of the fluorites were glassy, most having the matte faces typical of this mine. This piece is STRONGLY ATYPICAL, in that the three jauntily set octahedrons (to 1.2 cm long), are glassy and gemmy and have striking and unusual preferentially etched faces replaced with drusy quartz, giving a unique banded look. The color is a rich pink hue. Facinating material.
