Item Description

There are only four known localities for Ogdensburgite in the world. This incredibly rare hydrated calcium, zinc, iron manganese arsenate species gets its name for type locality in Ogdensburg, New Jersey, but it is exceedingly difficult to find a specimen anywhere in today's market. This is to the best of my recollection, the only specimen of Ogdensburgite that we've had to offer. This miniature specimen features a matrix comprising black Franklinite, dark translucent golden colored Willemite, pinkish-white Calcite (and possibly grey Sphalerite{?} - blue fluorescence) which plays host to reddish-brown colored Ogdensburgite, which can be seen on the underside of the piece. There are also a few small spots of a brighter red mineral on the front / display side of the specimen, which is probably Zincite, but we photographed them for reference just in case. It should be noted that that specimens of Ogdensburgite and Yukonite have been confused and are incorrectly labeled, and this piece came to us labeled as Ogdensburgite. It is also possible that both species are present as there is a photo on mindat.org which states Ogdensburgite is a mustard yellow hue, and the Yukonite is actually the reddish mineral (https://www.mindat.org/photo-154300.html). A must have species for any rare mineral collector or a Franklin enthusiast.
