Item Description

A showy specimen of intergrown clusters of radial, lustrous and translucent, rose-red to rose-brown, elongated orthorhombic crystals of olmiite from the NEW, Fall 2008 find at the famous Nchwaning II Mine of South Africa. The large rosette is 3.8 cm across, which is large for the find. The clusters rest on a mostly hidden crust of matrix. This is an unusually robust example from this find and it really glows a beautiful rose-red with good light. Olmiite was formerly known as poldervaartite, prior to recent extensive testing.
