Item Description

A classic piece of the Precious Opal replacing Petrified Wood from an undisclosed locality in Mexico. This piece shows the notably well-preserved form of the tree with disticnt striations, and throughout the specimen are pockets of colorful Precious Opal which shows rich color flashes of blue and purple. The Opal needs a strong light to show off the color, but it's really pretty when viewed up close. This material is nearly impossible to obtain these days, and is very worthwhile for collectors becuase it's not just a mineral specimen, nor a gem specimen nor a fossil, but a combination of all three. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#O-77). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record).
