RARE, striking and unusual large OLD banded opal from an unknown Mexican locale. Beautiful sky-blue botryoids rest atop striking varve-like banded dark brown and bone-white opal. A most colorful, artistic and sculptural opal from an East Coast collection and comes with a century-old faded and water-stained layered label with two Mexico localities - famous Guanajuato on the upper label and La Silleta, a very obscure small Jalisco State municipality with 26 inhabitants on the lower label. How large was it 100 years ago?? Irregardless, this is a VERY RARE, excellent and showy opal varietal from an unusual locale.
