Item Description

A beautiful, prismatic, "Baveno" twinned crystal of translucent smoky colored Orthoclase from this lesser known locality in Russia. The label only refers to Khabarovskiy Kray as I'm sure details of the deposit were not readily avaiable at the time when the piece was acquired. It's an impressive crystal not only from the standpoint of the well-defined, sharp twin, but it's actually somewhat gemmy when backlit, which is rare for Feldspar in general. Most crystals of Feldspar in the world are opaque, so when you have a crystal that passes light, AND it's a euhedral "Baveno" twin, you can't ask for much more. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#12887). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Velt" November-December 2017).
