Item Description

It should be noted that the specimens from this area were original sold as Pargasites, and then changed to Fluor-cannilloite" but analysis has shown that they are all indeed Pargasite. If you visit the Luc Yen page on mindat.org, you can see a few discussion on the message board about this topic. With that said, the Pargasites from Luc Yen are arguably the finest color examples of the species that we've seen. They are at least as fine as the similar specimens from Ali Abad, Pakistan in terms of color. The strong almost "chrome" green color combined with notably well-formed larger makes them world-class for the species (which is often dark brown / black and opaque). This fine small cabinet display piece hosts several fine quality, sharp, lustrous, translucent to gemmy Pargasite crystals with the iconic strong neon-green color aesthetically sitting on typical marble matrix. The largest crystal measures a full 4.2 cm, which is notably large for any green Pargasite crystal. A few of the smaller crystals are nearly textbook in their form, while some of the others (along with the largest crystal) are a bit distorted, but they ALL show at least a few very smooth, well-formed, lustrous prism faces, so they're not just massive "chunks" of Pargasite - they're all crystallized. This mineral is a very complex silicate species and to find such wonderfully colored crystals with the largest approaching 2 inches is significant! An excellent example of the species and the locality. From the world-famous mineral collection of Dr. Ed David (catalogue #70B - with a label calling it "Fluor-cannilloite"), a PhD electrical engineer and the science advisor to President Richard Nixon and the Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology from 1970 to 1973. The piece is priced at $3,200 in the inventory.
