Item Description

Pectolite is a member of the Wollastonite Group and is the calcium analogue of serandite. The now closed Millington Quarry is over 100 years old (it opened in 1895). Starting in the late 1970's the quarry reopened and started producing a large number of interesting specimens from this incredible Trap Rock quarry. This is one of the most famous Trap Rock quarries in New Jersey and it perhaps its greatest claim to fame are its spectacular pectolite specimens. This is a very attractive large vug lined with big radial balls of pink and green pectolite. On the edge, where the pocket was removed from the matrix, you can see the radial growth of the acicular crystals, which culminate in a smooth rounded surface. This is a large and rich example of this classic New Jersey material. The piece is shaped like a horn of plenty! Neat old classic!
