Pentagonite (rare)

Item Description

Pentagonite is a rare calcium vanadium silicate (it's a dimorph of Cavansite) that is best known to mineral collectors from the Wagholi Quarries in India. What's interesting is that Pentagonite crystals have a true blue color to them, while Cavansite has a slightly greenish overtone, even though their chemistry is identical. Without a doubt, the finest examples of Pentagonite ever found are those from Wagholi. There have been a decent number of pieces found over the last few decades, but the species is still considered quite rare. It's one of those minerals that's almost exclusively tied to a single locality, as it's nearly impossible to find Pentagonites for sale from anywhere else. The species gets its name from the rare pseudosymmetrical pentagonal twins (five-fold) seen in certain crystals (one of the best examples I can find is at the following link: https://www.le-comptoir-geologique.com/pentagonite-en-twinned-pentagonite-ref-b20-02.html) This piece features a wonderful, intense neon blue color crystallized "spray" of Pentagonite, free of matrix.
