Phantom Calcite with Dolomite on Sphalerite

High quality calcite from the well-known Sweetwater Mine of Missouri's Viburnum Trend is a Midwest and American classic, around in the 1980s and 90s but sadly not so plentiful on the market today. Three calcite glassy, lustrous, transparent to translucent, crystals are dramatically set on the highly sculptural large matrix of granular sphalerite nearly totally covered with sharp, tiny, lustrous, translucent dolomite rhombohedrons. All three calcites host darker amber scalenohedral calcite phantoms, that add much pizzazz to the prisms. The dominating upright scalenohedron is 6.7 cm tall, the impressive doubly terminated calcite is 8.5 cm long and the cute, well-placed gemmy crystal is 2.3 cm tall. In great shape overall. The doubly terminated and small calcite are pristine, with the large crystal having only a modest bit of termination and edge bruising. The artistic large piece displays fantastically from either side without aid. Ex Chad Dalrymple collection of Ardmore, Oklahoma who passed away in 1995. We recently obtained a portion of his collection. He acquired this striking and very artistic calcite and dolomite specimen in the 1990s. Classic and outstanding combination material.
