Item Description

A rarely seen Phenakite crystal from the famous locality formerly referred to as Volodarsk-Volynskii for years, but this was an old Soviet name, and the Ukrainians refer to it as Khoroshiv Raion. The most well-known crystals from this locality are the famous GEM Heliodors, but the Phenakites deserve some accolades for their superior quality and crystal form. This piece is a near "floater" specimen (it's largely crystallized all around with a small separation mark on one edge) of very gemmy, colorless Phenakite, showing a compressed "disc"-like (lenticular) rhombic habit with smooth well-formed faces all over. This crystal came to us directly from the man who collected it in Ukraine several years ago. These specimens are rarely seen on the market today, and a beautiful crystal such as this with such excellent gemminess is certainly desirable. If you collect gem crystals, thumbnails or you're a fan a beryllium species / Phenakite, this is a lovely example that would make a nice addition to your collection.
