Item Description

A very nice thumbnail specimen of highly sought after Phenakite from the historical Mt. Antero locality. This specimen comes from the collection of Willard W. Wulff (1904-1998) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a prominent figure and collector of Colorado minerals. Wulff was one of the founding members of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society in 1936. You can read Willard's bio on the Mineralogical Record website here ( http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1528 ). The piece was accompanied by a small scrap of tissue paper (which is now disintegrated) that stated the piece was collected by fellow CSMS founding member and mineral legend, Edwin Over ( https://mineralogicalrecord.com/labels.asp?colid=586 ). A wonderfully historic piece of this well known material dating back roughly 75-100 years. A single, sharp, lustrous white/colorless Phenakite rhomb (pseudo-cubic) measuring 3.5 mm on edge sits cream colored Microcline matrix with associated Mica (Muscovite?). This is a very attractive overall piece and a good representation from Mt. Antero, but the fact that it was found by the legendary Ed Over is significant and more than makes the piece worth owning.
