Item Description

Outstanding and not so ugly example of the rare hydrous sulfate mineral species Pickeringite, from the TYPE LOCALITY of Cerrose Pintados in Chile. Crystals are normally tiny, but in this small cabinet specimen the long, thin lathes range up to several cm in length. These crystals are interwoven with massive, chalk-white Pickeringite, and together they make perhaps the best Pickeringite specimen I have seen. Imagine snow-white porcelain being sculpted, and you will get an idea of the aesthetics of this piece. Formerly in the collection of David Travis. No clue on value here - we have not seen another that was not simply reference level smudges, either! From our special collection sale, direct to auction, of choice material from the collection of Richard Rossi, East Coast collector and Mineralogical Record Fellow.
