Item Description

A beautiful polished slice of bi-colored (pink and green) Tourmaline from the famous Alto Ligonha Pegmatite Field in Mozambique. This piece was sliced and polished from a broken crystal that was mined in the 1970s. Typically we're used to seeing Tourmalines from Brazil, Afghanistan or even the Congo these days, but the old classic crystals from Alto Ligonha are some of the great forgotten gems of the mineral world. A nice example of this beautiful material for anyone interested in Tourmalines or gem minerals. Also a great piece for jewelry / wire wrapping! The piece is originally from the collection of Richard ("Rich") Kosnar, who obtained the crystal from Manuel Bettencourt Dias many years ago, but it was only recently cut and polished into its present state. Kosnar was a well-known mineral dealer and mineral collector from Colorado who died in 2007, and he has a big fan of pegmatite minerals. The rare potassium zirconium phosphate species Kosnarite was named in his honor, and coincidentally has been found in a few worldwide pegmatite localities.
