Item Description

There are countless localities for Opal around the world. It's a mineral that despite its simple chemistry is incredibly diversified in terms of color and forms. I've said that it's one of the few species that looks as good when it's transparent as when it's opaque. In 2019 in the Pisco Province of the Ica Department of Peru there was an exciting new discovery of beautiful pink Opal specimens unlike anything we've seen. This piece shows an almost botryoidal form with a soft, flowing, almost ethereal appearance and a mix of pink and lavender tones. When exposed to SW UV light, you can see a striking fluorescent neon-green glow from a thin coating of Hyalite Opal (now called Opal-(AN)) which is only slightly visible in daylight. When the piece is backlit, it shows a wonderful internal color. I haven't seen much of this material on the market, and I think it's incredibly beautiful and eye-catching for Opal in terms of color and form.
