Item Description

Outstanding specimens of the relatively rare lead dioxide plattnerite have come from famed Mina Ojuela and this is a very rich and attractive two-sided specimen from the Kay Robertson Collection # 2883, dating to the major finds of the early-mid 1960s. Nubby upright and mounded rounded masses of brown microcrystals totally cover both sides of the thin limonite matrix crust. The back side sparkles with a secondary coating of the glassy calcite rhombs and flat hemimorphite blades. Classic, excellent, showy and rich combination material. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record).
