Item Description
Pestoskey stones are polished Devonian-aged coral colonies from the Lower Peninsula of Michigan and are named after an Ottawa Indian chief and the city of Pestoskey. The six-sided corals lived in a shallow ocean about 350 million years ago and are found today on beaches in the area. They are very popular decorative materials today and were named the offical Michigan State stone in 1965. This is one of those unusual cases where biology meets mineralogy. This is a fine example.
