Item Description

The Lower New Street Quarry is one of the most famous of the older localities in the New Jersey trap rocks, and it produced some of the state's finest Prehnite specimens during the first round of mining in the early 1900's. To me, one of the most appealing and desirable aspects of this specimen is that the highly-translucent balls of Prehnite are NOT cast after Anyhydrite like later specimens, but are as primary as they come. The edges of each crystal can be seen on the surface of the spherical clusters, with the mint-green Prehnite balls reaching up to 2 cm across. #2861 in Kay's collection and acquired in 1963, you very seldom find such good examples of Prehnite like this from this well known locale, and in such fine condition!
