Item Description

The Kayes Region is western Mali has been the source of some really impressive Prehnite and Epidote specimens since the early 2000s. The specimens from the Djouga diggings are some of the signature examples of this now classic material. This piece features several botryoidal spheres of gemmy "water"-green colored Prehnite measuring up to 2.0 cm across sitting atop dark greenish-brown prismatic Epidote crystals with no matrix. The largest Epidote measures 3.1 cm long, and several of them are actually doubly-terminated. The front is in fine condition, and there is only one minor contact on the back where it was removed from the pocket. A showy, three-dimensional and eye-catchingly unique example of these well-known specimens from Mali. Priced at $950 in the inventory.
