Item Description

Vesper Peak in northwestern Washington state is a classic US locality that has produced iconic and distinctive specimens of Grossular Garnet which range in color from greenish to nearly red, but the most memorable specimens are the classic cinnamon or burnt orange Grossular (similar to the Jeffrey Mine in Canada). Typically these specimens only exhibit the Garnet crystals, but this piece is loaded with soft golden color orthorhombic crystal groups of Prehnite measuring up to 1.0 which were deposited on the fine orange Grossulars. The largest Garnet measures 4 mm across, and there are a few exposed crystals that reveal their fine luster and gemminess. A hard to find association specimen from this well-known locality. Valued at $700. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#10805). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
