Item Description

The Wave Hill cattle station locality sits about 30 km (19 miles) east of the town of Kalkaringi in the Northern Territory of Australia. This locality is best known for its Prehnites, which are often found in nodules that weather out of basalt. These nodules have virtually no specimen value, but when they are sliced and polished, they reveal some of the best color and quality Prehnite you'll find from anywhere. The enticing green hues seen in this material, combined with the above average gemminess makes for some very eye-catching pieces. It should be noted that I've seen a few crystallized specimens of Prehnite from Wave Hill, but the majority of the pieces I've seen over the years are polished nodules. This piece is a good example of this classic material, as it has a very pleasing yellow-green to green hue, with good internal translucency and some attractive "wispy" inclusions creating an almost ethereal appearance. The piece looks best when it's backlit. A really cool piece for any fan of worldwide Prehnites or lapidary grade specimens. You don't see many of these on the market, so don't miss out. Specimen weight is 104.5 grams.
