Item Description

Here we have a good Prehnite specimen from the famous Prospect Park Quarry in New Jersey. It hosts semi botryoidal aggregates measuring up to 6 mm across with good green color and translucency on matrix. Associated gem quality Quartz makes for a nice touch, but perhaps the most interesting aspect of the piece is that the Quartz crystals formed a textbook "cast" after a blocky, prismatic crystal of Anhydrite, which was later dissolved away. Good quality old time material, and now that the quarry is finished, these kind of specimens will be very difficult to obtain. This specimen comes from the collection of Willard W. Wulff (1904-1998) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a prominent figure and collector of Colorado minerals. Wulff was one of the founding members of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society in 1936. You can read Willard's bio on the Mineralogical Record website here ( http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1528 ). The piece comes with a hand-written label from Wulff.
