Proustite is a well-known, valuable and sought after silver-bearing sulfosalt, one of the elusive "Ruby Silver" species. The best examples of Proustite show a beautiful rich red metallic color, which is almost singular in the mineral world. This miniature piece is from the famed Imiter Mine in Morocco, which is one of the great silver-producing localities in the modern era of mineral collecting. It's filled with hundreds upon hundreds of small, rich crimson-red colored crystals of Proustite, which are intergrown to form almost spherical clusters, which are sitting on oxidized matrix. The Proustites are best seen under magnification, and we've photographed them with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate their quality. This is an unusual style for Proustite, both from Imiter and for the species in general.
