Item Description

A CLASSIC example of one of the famous Proustites from Freiberg! Good matrix examples of this material are certainly few and far between on the market, and this piece is a nice example of this highly desirable material. The piece hosts a 1.8 cm composite Proustite crystal which is sitting on a bit of matrix with minor bladed Barite. Amazingly, the piece still shows a rich red color with backlighting. The size of the Proustite is very good for the locality, and the color is fantastic for what is a very old (150+ years) specimen. This is a rarely seen displayable old German "Ruby Silver" that could fit in any collection. Valued at $950. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#1990), and the label states that it is from the Erich Lindemann Collection. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
