Item Description

A very rich, RARE and showy old-time proustite specimen from this old polymetallic mine in the historic Erzgebirge. The Marienberg District was active from the 12th Century unitl 1958. The sculptural small cabinet is comprised almost entirely of lustrous wine-red proustite crystals and crystal sections. The sharp gemmy crystals in the striking column rich 1.3 cm. The interesting coating is mainly small etched pyrite cubes. The translucent proustite GLOWS with cherry-red color, when back lit. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 3477 and acquired from the Shale's in the mid-1960s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017). Old-time specimens of this richness and quality are seldom available. Classic, rich silver ore.
