Item Description

Purpurite is a rare manganese phosphate species, which forms as a result of an alteration of Lithiophilite. Good specimens are hard to find on the market. Some of the most well-known examples are those from the Bendada Mines in Portugal, but this piece is a rarely seen example from the Pamaró Mine in Brazil. Collectors are drawn to the alluring purple color, which is where the species gets its name. This piece is a rich small cabinet sized display specimen featuring beautiful strong purple colored Purpurite that can be seen on all sides. If you collect rarities, manganese-bearing minerals or phosphates, don't miss out on this one. From the collection of Vasco Trancoso, a medical doctor and prominent mineral collector from near Lisbon, Portugal (https://www.mindat.org/user-11954.html). He assembled his mineral collection over the course of 60 years, and built a fine worldwide display collection that we recently purchased. This piece is pictured on mindat.org at https://www.mindat.org/photo-202668.html
