Item Description

A CLASSIC example of one of the famous Pyrargyrites from Freiberg! Good matrix examples of this material are certainly few and far between on the market, and this piece is a fantastic example of this highly desirable material. This specimen hosts brilliantly lustrous Pyrargyrite crystals measuring up to 1.8, which is very good sized for the locality. They are sitting aesthetically on the underlying matrix to create a larger 3-dimensional piece. Since this is an old piece, it has lost any red internal highlights, but the amazing luster combined with the large crystals makes up for it. Some of the crystals have notably smooth faces and are incredibly well-formed, while others are somewhat skeletal in habit. No real damage that I can see with the naked eye, though some of the crystals are partially incomplete due to the fact that they grew against the pocket wall. This is a rarely displayable old German "Ruby Silver" that could fit in any collection. Valued at $2,500-$3,000. Be sure to check out the PROUSTITE from Freiberg in this week's auction as well! Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#3949), and the label states that it is from the Erich Lindemann Collection. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
