Item Description

A sharp, complete all-around, 1.4 cm, 3-dimensional, splendent, metallic-gray, pyrargyrite crystal is very aesthetically perched on the mounded matrix. The matrix is peppered with smaller pyrargyrites and a glassy calcite rhomb is hidden in a vug, which really adds panache. A classic, old-time and very showy "ruby silver" sulfosalt combination miniature from the historic mines at St. Andreasberg. Ex Herb Obodda dealer stock and comes with a faded Wilhelm Maucher label. Wilhelm was in charge of the mineral repository at the Freiberg Mining Academy and published the FIRST major investigation on Tsumeb minerals. He became a full-time mineral dealer in Munich in 1908, until his death in 1930. His son, Herbert and his sister took over the business, with the label name change coming in 1936. Valued at $600-800.
