Item Description
The famous extinct Colorado Zn-Pb-Ag-Cu-Au-Mn Eagle Mine is best known for fine pyrite and golden barite specimens. Most pyrite specimens consist of well-formed pyritohedrons, such as this very rich and sculptural large piece. The impressive, 3-dimensional, undulating piece is covered with bright, brassy, well-striated pyritohedrons, to 1.2 cm. A trivial bit of scattered bruising is certainly only a modest detraction, for all the crystal density. The pyrites rest on granular sphalerite. The mine closed in 1981.
