Item Description

This abandoned and flooded well-known Devonian carbonate aggregate quarry is famous for excellent pyrite, calcite and marcasite specimens. This outstanding combination is highlighted by the aesthetically clustered, very sharp, bronzy, cuboctahedrons, to 2.2 cm. The pretty light iridescence adds real pizzazz to these beauties. The pyrites rest on the rolling carbonate with marcasite matrix covered with tiny calcite rhombs and marcasite crystals. A fine BONUS is the 1.0 cm cast of a ribbed mollusc or brachiopod on the side! Classic and excellent Rensselaer Quarry pyrite.
