Item Description

Please note that this specimen came labeled as being found at the Casapalca Mine, but based upon the octahedral habit, it very well could be from Quiruvilca. It's an older specimen from mining in the 1970s, so it easy to see how the localities could have been mixed up. This is a gorgeous, showy, three-dimensional cabinet display specimen of Pyrite featuring intergrown "stepped" octahedra free of matrix. The faces are rather sharp, with GREAT luster that classic silvery-golden color. The overall aesthetics and elegant form of the piece make it a very desirable Pyrite specimen from Peru. It displays very well, and truly stands out among countless other "boring" Pyrites I have seen from this country. The crystals are big and robust, measuring up to 4.5 cm. No real damage that I can find, save the periphery where it was removed from the pocket. Valued at $1600. From the collection of Senator / Dr. Miguel Romero of Teuhuacan, Mexico (Collection #2188).
