Item Description

Dzhezkazgan mines are famous for world-class Bornite specimens, but other sulfides are also found there, including some very nice (but rarely seen) Pyrite specimens. This is an excellent large thumbnail / toenail display piece featuring a pair of fine sharp, isolated, bright, soft golden colored metallic cubic crystals of Pyrite measuring up to 2.2 cm associated with a few crystals of Quartz and dark grey-black Bornite on the back of the piece. Both of the crystals are slightly compressed along one axis, so they're not entirely equant, which is not commonly seen for the species. The Pyrite crystals are in very good condition, but a few tiny imperfections can be seen on the corners, so they're not quite 100% pristine. I love the gentle almost chatoyant reflective luster on the surface of the Pyrites, which is created by minute tightly packed striations. These specimens came out for a brief time in the early 1990s, and are now quite rare on the market. A showy and good quality Pyrite from this famous locale. Ex Doxsee Collection.
