Elba Pyrites are world-famous for their quality. These specimens have been known for centuries, but have endured as some of the most impressive examples of the species ever found. This specimen is a large crystal for the locality as typically the crystals from Rio Marina don't measure much over 5 cm. The crystal is predominantly pyritohedral in habit with octahedral and cubic faces. The front faces on the specimen are notably smooth and lustrous with the classic soft golden metallic hue. A few small reddish-black colored crystal groups of Sphalerite can be seen dotting the front face of the piece along with a handful of secondary Pyrite crystals for a great touch. No major damage on the display side, though it's not complete on the back. A very impressive, eye-catching and large example of these iconic and historic specimens.
