Item Description

Sculptural and interesting intergrown pyrite octahedrons from the famous Animon Mine at Hauron, Peru. The striking, mirror-bright, brass-yellow octos, to 3.6 cm, are dramatically accented by the pitted modified edges, rippled prism faces and preferential quartz overgrowths. This very aesthetic small cabinet cluster is nearly pristine, with only trivial periphery wear. Huaron pyrites rival those from the famed Huanzala Mine of Peru. Specimens of this fine quality came out in the mid-1980s. See the 1997 Mineralogical Record Mines and Minerals of Peru issue, Vol. 28, No. 4. Ex Bob Reynolds Collection, a well-known fossil and mineral expert and Curator of the San Bernardino County Museum. He passed away in 2020. A classic and excellent octahedral pyrite from the Animon Mine.
